FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
The earlier, the better. For most sports injuries, physiotherapy should begin within 24-72 hours of the injury once initial swelling is controlled. Early intervention reduces recovery time significantly, prevents muscle atrophy, and ensures the tissue heals in the right alignment. Waiting too long can lead to compensatory movement patterns that create secondary problems.
Recovery timelines vary depending on the type and severity of the injury. Minor muscle strains may resolve in 2-4 weeks, while complex ligament tears or post-surgical rehab (such as ACL reconstruction) can take 4-9 months. Our team will give you a realistic timeline after your initial assessment and review it as you progress through each phase.
In most cases, partial or modified activity is encouraged - complete rest is rarely the best approach. Our team will advise on what activity is safe at each phase of your recovery. You may be cleared to continue low-impact or upper-body training even while a lower-limb injury heals. Return to full sport is only recommended once you pass our objective return-to-sport clearance tests.
No referral is required. You can book directly with our physiotherapy team for an assessment. However, if you have had recent surgery, a confirmed fracture, or a complex medical history, bringing any available reports or scan results to your first session will help us design the most appropriate programme for you from day one.
Sports physiotherapy focuses specifically on athletic injuries, performance recovery and sport-specific functional goals. While general physiotherapy aims to restore everyday function, sports rehab is designed to return you to high-demand physical activity - with precise testing for strength symmetry, power output and sport-specific movement. Our protocols are built around your sport, not just your symptoms.
